In order to provide
coverage for the GSM network across enormous highways connecting major
towns in certain countries could pose major challenges especially if these
highways are not electrified. The choices left to the country are one of
two. Either the use of Generating Sets or Solar. Generating Sets are prone to inefficiency and interruptions. These are due to a number of factors including wear and tear and the need for maintenance, limited lifetime and the constant need for replenishment of fuel. | Solar array made of solar modules in series (to provide 48V) called strings and a number of strings in parallel to provide the necessary amount of power. Each Sollatek Solar module provides 130Wp. The number of parallel strings varies with the power consumption of the GSM site.The solar array generates DC power during the day which runs the communications equipment during the day while charging the batteries. |

Solar Control Centre (SCC) which regulates the charging and discharging of the battery and the supplying of the load with energy.The SCC is rated at 180A charging current for the smaller sites (500W) and rising up to 270A for the larger sites (1200W) |

Sealed Batteries with a design life of over 15 years requiring no maintenance and will provide sufficient energy to operate the GSM equipment during the night. The batteries are rated to provide 5 continuous operating days at full load even if there was no sun. |
