Sollatek Regulates International Cooperation In North Sea Power

Sollatek Regulates International Cooperation In North Sea Power
PRODUCT: AVR3S4x1200
HISTORY: February 2016

20161028_110900
Located 40km (25m) off England’s Norfolk coast, the Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm is a £1.5 billion project harnessing the winds of the North Sea. When completed, Dudgeon will generate more than 402MW of electricity to onshore substations where two Sollatek automatic voltage regulators control the site power supply.

A joint venture between Norway’s Statoil and Statkraft and Abu Dhabi’s Masdar, Dudgeon consists of 67 turbines, each 187m high and will produce enough electricity to supply 410,000 average UK homes. The site covers an approximate 55km2 with a 42km subsea cable transmitting the electricity to an on-shore substation at Weybourne where Siemens have deployed 2 of Sollatek’s AVR3S4x1200 regulators.

These AVRs were specifically selected by Siemens because of previous installations where Sollatek units have proved to be robust, maintenance free and compact while performing flawlessly.

Like all Sollatek AVRs, these 828kVA units utilise solid state thyristor technology, and are able to offer voltage correction speeds in excess of 1250V/sec, enabling them to rapidly detect voltage variations and correct the output to ensure steady supply.

Providing complete satisfaction to the customer, Sollatek Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVRs) are also equipped with comprehensive alarm and monitoring outputs for interface to the site SCADA system. Additionally, internal measurements are data logged and the files can either be downloaded on site via USB and laptop or transmitted to the Sollatek Cloud (via an optional 2G modem) for analysis.
