Sollatek Proudly Sponsors St. George’s Lawn Tennis Club Squash First Teams

Sollatek is delighted to sponsor the St. George’s Lawn Tennis Club (STGLTC) men’s and women’s squash first teams, competing in the Surrey Squash League. Both teams have made an impressive start to the season, setting their sights high in their respective divisions.

The men’s team currently  sits in second place, just seven points behind league leaders Horley. Meanwhile, the ladies’ team leads their division, aiming to extend their advantage before the first half of the season concludes.

Attendants enjoyed a thrilling doubleheader featuring both STGLTC first teams on the 27th November.  In the penultimate games of the 1st half fixtures of the season, the men faced off against The Oakwood, a newly formed team led by former world No. 29 Joe Lee, while the ladies took on last year’s champions, Surbiton.

Miles Jenkins, STGLTC’s head squash professional, expressed his gratitude for Sollatek’s support adding: “Both our teams have been kindly sponsored by Sollatek this season, allowing us to bring in world-ranked professionals as we aim to secure Division 1 titles.”

Match Report

Ladies’ Team: A Dominant Performance

The evening began with a strong showing from the ladies’ team. Jasmine Hutton (world No. 20) and Alicia Mead (world No. 46) both made light work of their opponents, dispatching them 3-0 to establish to a solid 2-0 lead for STGLTC on the night.

Dominique Lloyd-Walter, a former world No. 18, demonstrated her class by outplaying her opponent to win 3-0.  Next up, was long-standing member Tory Sawyer, who faced a challenging match against former pro Natasha Burrett  but, unfortunately fell to a 3-0 loss. Despite this, the ladies clinched a 3-1 victory overall, maintaining their top spot in the league table.

Men’s Team: A Battle of Brothers

The men’s team’s performance matched the ladies’ on the night. Squash pro, Miles Jenkins, set the tone with a flawless win, dismantling a rising youngster 3-0 adding a decisive (11-0) score line to the board. Michael Mattimore followed with a hard-fought 3-2 victory, giving the team STGLTC a 2-0 lead for the men’s.

The highlight of the evening came with an eagerly anticipated clash between brothers Charlie and Joe Lee. The tense encounter started with a few bits of gamesmanship. However, Charlie showed remarkable composure and consistency, securing his first-ever win over his brother with a decisive 3-0 result. This victory sealed the team win for St. George’s.

4th and 5th string sides concluded the evening. Srikar mounted an impressive comeback from 0-2 to level at 2-2 but narrowly lost in the fifth game, but still earning two valuable points. Gurbhaj, a recent addition to the squad, delivered a flawless 3-0 victory, adding five points to the team’s tally. The men ended the night with a 4-1 triumph, just one point shy of maximum points, keeping them firmly in second place and within reach of Horley.

With strong performances from George’s so far in the 1st half of fixtures, we hope the form carries over into the 2nd half. Let’s keep cheering for St. George’s as they continue their campaign in the Surrey Squash League!
